If you’re a follower, by now you should know that I am horrible at finishing projects . . . I’ve got several projects going on right now but I’m trying my very best to stay focused to complete one before moving on to the next. With that being said,I have a few more finishing touches to add to my oldest son’s tween bedroom –-and-- we began updating his bathroom as well, so those will be posted together within the next few days, so please check back.
But I’m very excited to share with you my inspiration for my little guy’s big boy room, which is in progress. I could also use a little advice too---so please give me some feedback!
My little guy’s name is Cayden he’s 2.5. He just recently started sleeping through the night and more often in his own bed, so what better time to give his space a makeover to make him feel comfy in his big boy room?!
I knew that I wanted to do a red/white/blue theme, to prepare myself for the impending Spiderman phase that usually catches little boys attention around the age of 3 or 4. So I began browsing some images and fell in love with these bedrooms:
Children Bedroom Upper Eastside Apartment at Ashley Whittaker.
I adore this room-especially the wall color, the light fixtures the red bed!
McGill Design Group
What’s not to love about this space-I love the black bed and the crisp white mouldings and built-ins-Just LOVE it!

I love the bright red bed and the contrast with the blue storage bins and the bead board is simply beautiful!
So I’m looking to incorporate ideas from these three rooms to complete Cayden’s room.
Here are some pics of what I’m working with(I had begun painting the room gray for my oldest son, before he decided to move his bedroom to the basement):
Yes, it’s quite a mess . . . He was playing hard!
We’ll fix that!
Things I’d like to accomplish in this room:
- Wall treatment/board and batten or bead board
- Paint existing furniture-bed(I’m not 100% sure if I want to do the bed it’s an antique from the 1800’s), small chest and hutch and storage unit
- Top portion of walls to be painted a light denim blue
- Window treatments
- ABC wall art/gallery
- Organized toy storage
- New Area rug
- reupholster his small sofa chair
- crown moulding (maybe)
- New ceiling fixture
Here’s what we started with: Paint! (this pic was taken at night, the wall color looks much darker than what it actually is.)
Check back to see my next steps in this room!
