Tweaking My Kitchen Accessories: EAT Sign

IMG_9583

I  purchased some cardboard E.A.T letters from Joann’s, after seeing them in many blogger’s kitchens.  Most recently I admired Noelle’s letters in her adorable kitchen at Home Preferred.  I’ve been holding onto them for a while now, not really knowing how I wanted to finish them, then a light bulb went off in my head, STRIPES!

I used some painters tape and taped off some stripes, then took them outside and went to town with some Krylon spray paint.

After I sprayed them, I removed the painters tape to reveal the stripes.

I wasn’t super pleased with the results, but I hung them anyway.

Then a couple of days later, I took them down.  They needed something, a little more depth and color.  So I took my raw umber craft paint that I use to “glaze” stuff with . . .

I squirted a few drips along the letters . . .

and spread it over the letter with a wet paintbrush.

This is what it looks like when the paint is spread with the wet brush.

I then, dabbed the brush with a paper towel to dry it some  . . .

and dry brushed the letter to create brush strokes on the surface.

I then used the same technique to “glaze” this sign:

Trying to incorporate the blue into the kitchen, I’ve got a few more accessories that will get spray and glazed too!

I first saw the EAT letters in Jules kitchen on Cougar Town and fell in love with them. I made mine out of fabric but I'm really liking the look of yours. :)

The letters look super cute. I just did a whole post on above the kitchen cabinets. Would you mind going over and leaving a comment with your tip on using the cans? Thanks!
